AVC Melody Choir
The Austria Vancouver Club Melody Choir also known as AVC Melody Choir was founded in 1974 at the Austria Vancouver Club in Richmond with the purpose of keeping alive the rich heritage of Austria's melodies in the Austrian Community of Vancouver and to share it with the larger multicultural community of Canada.
Our mixed voices choir at present has 38 registered members belonging to both the choir and the Austria Vancouver Club. Although most of the members have their birthplace in both Austria and Germany, we are proud to also have members out of the multicultural society of the Lower Mainland in our group. The music brings us together and holds us together. Every year the singers are busy preparing for one spring concert as well as one fall concert. We are always ready and willing to share our musical ability by performing at homes for the elderly, as guest choirs with other groups, in multicultural concerts and other special events as they happen to come our way. Not only do choir members enjoy singing together, but we also enjoy the company of each other. Members of AVC Melody Choir formed a walking club to which friends and family are always welcome. Our walking club meets once a week and explores the parks and walking trails of Vancouver and surrounding areas. A number of concerts have been shared with the Concordia Choir Vancouver. We have enjoyed numerous visits with other choirs of the Sängerbund. In May 2018 we traveled to Kelowna for a guest performance with the Kelowna Liedertafel and together with representatives of the Concordia Choir Vancouver we accepted the Nord Pacific Sängerbund flag and to host the next Saengerfest. In addition we have made many friends in different countries by taking trips to Europe, South America and the United States. A cruise to Hawaii is planned for the fall of 2020. As co-hosts, the AVC Melody Choir and the Concordia Coir Vancouver are looking forward to welcoming the choirs of the Nord Pacific Sängerbund to Vancouver in May of 2020. |
